Season Changes

We noticed on Monday that it was much colder than last week.  Last week we were swimming and this week we have had to use the heater!   Check out Mt Hutt this morning!!

We observed some changes in our environment and we wrote about it.  Autumn is here! Enjoy our stories below :-)

Monarch Caterpillars

~**UPDATE**~ scroll down to see our first butterfly!!

Mrs Polson planted some swan plants over the holidays.  We are observing the changes to the Monacrch caterpillars.  We are counting them and watching how they change.  We will keep a diary on here.

Some of the fatter caterpillars have started to make their chrysalis.  Here is a caterpillar making the 'j' shape ready to build the cocoon. This was taken before school.

By morning tea time, he had build the whole chrysalis.
He is a different caterpillar in the chrysalis.
Monday 16 Feb - Today we went out and surveyed the caterpillars.  We used tally marks to count the caterpillars, chrysalis's and butterflies.  There were only 2 caterpillars left.  Last week we counted up to 30 caterpillars!  Today there were at least 12 chrysalises.

Tuesday 2 March - We noticed that the chrysalis was looking black and brown and we could see the butterflies wings through it.

Today was a VERY exciting day!  The first butterfly hatched!!!!  We watched it pump its wings and then fly away.
